As an artist, and in general, I have never really fit in. I have always been uncomfortable with attaching a label to my art, for something with a label can be catagorised and contained, which is something I would rather avoid. However, an artist, particularly a young artist, faces the stressful task of developing a marketable style that can be subsequently sold to a pre-planned audience – an audience who expects the artist to have decided that he or she is a landscape artist or a portrait artist or an abstract artist.
I work in many styles, but what is common to all my works are the feelings and thoughts that inspire them. I am interested in what humans have done and what they are capable of, and I care deeply about the traces they leave behind. My work is about looking at the world and finding the little details in all the overlooked corners, and celebrating what I find. In the pursuit of the beautiful I search the dark and unusual places and polish up my discoveries in the studio. I am inspired by my travels around the great cities of Europe and beyond or wherever humanity has made its mark.
My most recent works are the result of a research trip I took to Toledo, Spain. After a period of working in abstraction and text, I am rediscovering my interests in figurative work.
Most of the work on my website is available for sale. Please email me if you are interested in purchasing or commissioning a piece of work.
