April gallery hop reception
Friday, April 19th, 2013
5pm until 8pm
Art at the Cathedral (the gallery at Christ Church Cathedral) presents New Life, as Seen in Contrast. The exhibit highlights newness by exposing its opposite: a duality ever present in our universe through various forms and forces. It is within the Easter season that the dichotomy between life and death, good and evil, heaven and earth is most apparent, and so we invite you to marvel with us this collective visualization of renewal.

At the end of the class series, each young artist is paired up with a professional community artist to create a collaborative work or performance, culminating in a public exhibition or production.

Online
12th Annual Judeo-Christian Online International Art Exhibition
Juror's Statement:
As we enter into this year’s special season of Easter and Passover, the gallery is very happy indeed to have planned this exhibition for this time. “Many are called but few are chosen" can be considered when thinking of those who have been selected for this smaller international showcase; nevertheless the works speak well of faith and creativity. Following are some comments about some of the works that deserve recognition because of the impact felt in expressing the theme of the show.

STEPHEN WIGGINS of Portland, Oregon takes on an important theme for Christians in turning over our troubles and placing them at the foot of the cross. “Lay Your Burdens Down” is a great message of hope.

Opening Reception: Friday, January 15, 2010 7 p.m. - 9 p.m.

Thomas More College’s Eva G. Farris Art Gallery and Helsinki Galleries in cooperation with the upcoming film, 'And White Was The Night'
About the film:
The theme in the film “And White Was The Night” is the evil created by social systems (in this case various crime organizations) and their power over individuals. The film touches a number of important topics, including drug and human trafficking and child soldiers. The story is set in the forests and suburbs of Helsinki (Finland), but it periodically takes you back to the jungles and towns of Colombia. This I think creates an interesting contrast. Even more of a contrast is the white night of Finland and the pitch black darkness of the jungle.
An important aspect of this film was to break the traditional genre boundaries. So the film has many elements that could be identified either as drama, action or even horror. To some it might even be experimental at times. I hope this shows in the art as well.”
